Regardless of how relatively bad Apple or MS is, or even which is worse, my general point remains: I don't consider Apple a really good alternative.

I'll concede the point on the Apple mouse, but I maintain that font is better in Ubuntu. Zeldman correctly pointed out that Firefox has major problems on Mac, but that certainly does not entice me to buy one. I would gladly pit Ubuntu/Firefox versus OS X/Safari. See here for a side by side comparison.

I don't think there is any such thing as a "correct" way to render font, so it will always be largely subjective, but IMO Ubuntu compares very favorably.

As one whom continually tries to get you to wtich to a Mac, I can certainly understand the proprietery arguments, but I'd have to vehmently disagree about font-rendering. Check out the Zeldman Daily Report and Jeffrey's analysis of Safari v. Firefox.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to call Apple Satan over M$ either, but they are certainly very bad when it comes to proprietery software and hardware. I just love my Macbook Pro way too much to make the switch to Ubuntu...for now.

Lastly, in Apple's defense, OS X fully supports two-button mice and all of their newer mice are two-buttons, except for the built-in touchpad on the laptops...but who uses those anyway?
